It occurs to me that if I’m going to care about popularity, I shouldn’t have chosen to play Johann Schmidt; but he chose me, and he’s the one I’ve got, so my muse he shall remain.

Nonetheless, it hurts me to my core to see that the fandom to which he belongs hates him so much. I’ve decided I’m more like his publicist/secretary than anything else, really, except that implies that I exert a degree of control over him, which I don’t, but…

I mean

I’m aware a lot of you don’t like him because ooh big scary bad Red Skull Nazi

but

the guy joined the Nazis purely to get research money for his experiments (confirmed by tie-in comics), then devised this elaborate plot to actually get rid of the Nazis and came so incredibly close to doing it.

And he openly insulted Hitler in front of other Nazi officers, before killing them, which takes major [insert synonym for masculinity here].

The Red Skull damage isn’t entirely his fault. Yes, he took the serum because he wanted to be a superhuman. Yes, he’s a selfish little bastard. However, he likely had the choice between taking the serum himself, before he could bring it to the HYDRA labs and have it analyzed for safety, OR letting the Nazis confiscate it and use it to make super-Nazis, which would have sucked for everybody.

So I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say he made the right choice.

There’s more, but in summary:

• You bastards may not love Johann but I sure as hell do
• He doesn’t even like me 126% of the time but I will still defend him against those who hate him for shallow reasons
• Yes, even while I am calling him a little shit for the things he does
• You really ought to appreciate him more, fandom, because he is fabulous.

Honestly, from the movie, I thought he was a badass. Insane, but a badass none the less. I love his personality and I love the way you play him. Keep doing what you’re doing, you’re amazing and so is he in his own special way.

Ah, thank you. He is both, yes. Not fully insane, but certainly partially. Unquestionably a badass.

I had the same exact problem with Ivan. Yeah, he is an OC so people don’t know him from any movie, but it actually kinda hurt to see so many people hate his design. I chickened out and eventually changed him around.

The fact that you haven’t changed Johann around to be good or “misunderstood” is amazing. I see a lot of people doing that with villains and it frustrates me. I like that he’s remained his badass self.

One of these days, I’m going to rp with you. And it will be glorious. But not now. Too busy, too distracted, and too thread droppy. But it will happen.

My older brother is out on his own in the world and is just now learning what it means to cook and bake. He’s got some direction (he knows the basics) but I doubt he has recipes. I want to put together a recipe book for him. So if you got any recipes you wouldn’t mind throwing my way, I’ll probably put them in the book. Anything will do but try not to make it too fancy.
